CALGARY JUNG SOCIETY INTO WINTER 2021

A man who has not passed through the inferno of his passions has never overcome them. As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being. Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. – Carl Jung

Thank you to our members for their support thus far, joining the Calgary Jung Society events online via a Zoom platform. Moving forward into 2021, we continue to navigate this transitional time-space period and carry on doing our individual work. It is clear to me that connecting our “thin threads” in any way communal way contributes to the important work needed to explore the Psyche. There couldn’t be a better time.

Upon registering for an event, you will receive information about the link to the lecture or workshop. Please register by 2:00 p.m. for Friday lectures and this is by 2:00 p.m. on the Friday. You must click on the Zoom link to join the lecture and then follow the instructions. It’s a good idea to log on between 6:45 and 6:58 p.m. You will be muted and your visual turned off during the lecture but towards the end of the presentation, you will be able to make comments and/or to ask questions. However, it is possible to make comments and/or to ask questions during the lecture, not directly to the speaker, but to the host.

Registration for the Saturday workshops are open until 8:00 a.m. of that morning. There will be a link in an email to join the workshop and then again, just follow the instructions. It’s a good idea to log on between 9:45 and 9:58 a.m. Have a tea and snack at the ready.
Members who are having difficulty with any registration can email us at info@calgaryjungsociety.org. We can help.

VOLUNTEERING

The Calgary Jung Society Board of Directors is comprised of 7 members. Positions include president, vice-president/programming director, treasurer, membership director, secretary, communications director, and librarian. The Board meets online at present to discuss programming, budget, and how to run events. All current Board members are willing to let their names stand for election to the 2021 fiscal year, BUT we are looking for two more members-at-large. If you are interested in letting your name stand, please let me know ASAP.

It may be that events are held in person again in the fall of 2021, in which case, there is more to volunteering with the CJS when these events occur. We sure do miss the social contact.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING JANUARY 22, 2021
PLUS a 2015 43 minute film by Megan McFeely called AS SHE IS

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Calgary Jung Society will be held on Friday January 22, 2021. This will be another 7:00 p.m. Zoom event but at no charge to members. The purpose of this meeting is to account for the activities of the Calgary Jung Society Board of Directors over the past year and to invite our members to become part of this group of volunteers. Positions on the Board are open every year. Voting by members will be via the chat and/or by a show of clapping hands, useful functions of the Zoom application.

The AGM is typically about a half hour in length. After the AGM, we will be showing the film As She Is, an insightful documentary that helps “us remember that there is another way of being, knowing and relating that is equally important as our externally focused, drive-oriented culture.” Here is an inspiring invitation to reconnect with the feminine aspect of ourselves in order to bring a much-needed balance back into the world. We typically show a film or speak specifically to Jungian psychology at the AGM but this year, we are offering a “sister” perspective. The filmmaker, Megan McFeely has posted a trailer and we hope that it is an enticement to join us:

As an added bonus, Megan will be joining us after the showing, via Zoom, to provide an update of her journey since the making of this film and then to answer any questions or respond to any comments that you may have!

As a follow-up to Susan Tiberghien’s lecture, the Calgary Jung Society is offering a three-part guided workshop on successive Tuesdays from April 13, 20, 27, 2021, from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. called Through Darkness into Light.
